About Background Remover
Background Remover cuts the main subject out of a photo and gives you a transparent PNG at the photo's original resolution. Choose a photo of up to 50 MB, from a phone or a camera, as JPG, PNG, WebP, or another type your browser reads. Your browser sends only a JPG copy of at most 1,024 pixels on the longest side to our own AI service, which returns a mask; the cut-out, the edge clean-up, and the PNG are then made on your device from the original. When a photo has several separate subjects, only the largest one is kept. The tool does not add a new background.
How to remove the background from a photo

Where your photo is processed
Your original photo never leaves your device; only a JPG copy, at most 1,024 px on its longest side, is sent to our server, which passes it to our own background-removal service on Railway. That service works in memory, writes nothing to disk, and returns only a mask. No third party receives the image. The final PNG is assembled in your browser from the original file.
Frequently asked questions
Is the result smaller than my photo or watermarked?
No. The PNG keeps your photo's full width and height, and nothing is drawn on it. The mask and the edge clean-up are computed on reduced copies and stretched to full size; edge pixels take the subject's color, which reduces, but does not fully remove, the old background's tint along the edges.
Can I upload a PNG or a WebP?
Yes. Any image your browser can open is accepted, up to 50 MB: JPG, PNG, and WebP everywhere, and other formats where the browser supports them. The result is always a transparent PNG.
Can I put a color or another picture behind the subject?
No, this tool only makes the background transparent. Open the PNG in an image editor that supports layers and place the subject on the new background there.
Can it keep two separate subjects?
No. The service keeps only the largest connected subject in the photo, so two people standing apart, or an object separate from the main subject, can disappear. Crop the photo around what you want with Crop Image, then run it again.
Is there a limit on cut-outs?
Yes. A limited number per hour and per day for each connection, counted together with the site's other tools that rely on a paid service, within a monthly budget for the site. When a limit is reached, the page says when to try again.
Tips and tricks
- ✓A bigger file does not improve the cut-out itself: the mask is computed from the reduced copy, while the PNG keeps your full resolution.
