Compress an image to 50 KB

Some online forms limit a photo, a scan, or a signature to 50 KB. Drop your images, in any format: the page brings each one under 50 KB at the highest quality that fits, and tells you what it had to change.

Up to 30 images at a time, each up to 140 MP on a computer and 48 on a phone or tablet (48 MP phone photos fit; a larger image can be reduced to 48 MP first).

How to compress an image to 50 KB

  1. Choose or drop up to 30 images.
  2. "To a size of 50 KB" is already set. Type another size if your form asks for one.
  3. Select "Compress", then download each image, or all of them at once in a ZIP file.

How the size is reached

JPG, WebP, and AVIF keep their format: the page keeps the highest quality whose file fits under the size you typed. When that quality would visibly spoil the picture (under 60 for JPG and WebP, 50 for AVIF), it reduces the width and height instead, as little as needed, and the result says so, for example "reduced from 4,032 × 3,024 to 1,000 × 750 to fit in 50 KB". A PNG without transparency, a HEIC iPhone photo, a TIFF, or a BMP becomes a JPG to get there, and the result says so. A PNG with transparency stays a PNG: the page reduces its colors, to 32 at least, and its width and height if needed. A picture that fits at a good quality keeps its width and height. Only a size too small even for a picture 160 pixels long cannot be reached: the result then says so, with the size it got.

A KB here is 1,000 bytes: 50 KB means 50,000 bytes at most, so the file also fits a form that counts 1 KB as 1,024 bytes.

An image already under 50 KB is compressed again only if that makes it smaller; otherwise the page tells you it is already under the requested size. An SVG stays vector: it is made lighter, but it has no target size.

Common uses

  • A photo or a scanned signature for an online application form.
  • A scanned certificate or ID page on a site that limits each upload.
  • A profile picture where the site sets a maximum size in KB.

Your images stay on your device

Every image is compressed inside this browser tab and none is uploaded. Photos stay the right way up, and their EXIF details, such as GPS location and camera model, are removed.

Frequently asked questions

Is it exactly 50 KB?

It is at most 50 KB (50,000 bytes), as close under that limit as the quality steps allow: the page checks the size of the file it made before offering it.

My form also asks for a size in pixels. What do I do?

Set the width and height first with Resize Image, then compress the result to the size in KB. A smaller picture also needs less compression to reach 50 KB.

Will a large phone photo fit in 50 KB?

Yes. A 12 or 48 MP phone photo usually stays over 50 KB even at quality 10, so the page also reduces its width and height, as little as a good quality allows, and the result says from what size to what size. If your form shows the picture at a set size, for example 600 pixels wide, you can resize it to that size first with Resize Image.

Can I compress several photos to 50 KB at once?

Yes, up to 30 at a time, in any mix of formats. JPG, WebP, and AVIF keep their format; PNG without transparency, HEIC, TIFF, BMP, and other images become JPG; a transparent PNG stays a PNG. Animated images are refused, with a message pointing to GIF Compressor.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. On a phone or tablet the page takes images up to its phone limit, which 48 MP phone photos fit; a larger one can be reduced first.
